On Healing, Creating, and Returning

Dear Friends,

First of all, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to each of you. Whether you’ve been with me for a while or have just joined, your support means the world to me. In this moment, I’m especially grateful for the space and encouragement you’ve given me to continue creating, even through some of the most challenging months of my journey. Thank you for sticking with me; it truly makes all the difference.

Over the past six months, I’ve been navigating some personal challenges and family health issues that have kept me out of the studio more than I’d like. It’s been tough at times, but it’s also given me a chance to reflect and reconnect with what matters most to me in my art.

I’m resuming my studio practice this month and continuing to work on a body of work that’s been in the works since the end of summer. The theme is centered around healing and renewal, and it’s something I’ve felt called to explore deeply. These pieces speak to my soul and the different layers of healing that we all go through.

The color palette for this body of work is intentionally muted and more subdued than my usual work. It’s a shift from the vibrant colors I’m known for, but it feels right for the theme I’m exploring. It’s been an interesting and powerful journey to work in these softer tones. They reflect the quiet moments of reflection and restoration I’ve been experiencing, and I’m excited to share the process with you soon.

I’ve also been spending more time drawing during this period. It was a more accessible way for me to create while balancing life and healing. It asked less of me, yet gave me so much in return, and allowed me to stay connected with my creativity. There’s a sense of calm and peace that comes with it for me. These drawings feel like an extension of my artistic voice, another way through which I heal and communicate. They are small, but honest, and they’ve become an important part of how I continue to create during this season.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned during this time away from the studio is that healing comes in waves, and so does the creative process. You don’t always have to be physically engaged with your work to feel connected to it. Distance from the work doesn’t make you less of an artist. In fact, I’ve come to realize that the power to heal ourselves, the power to return, even after time away, is often underestimated. I am excited to see where things will go from here.

As always, I appreciate your support more than words can say, and I am grateful to you. There’s also an upcoming exhibition I’m excited about, and I’ll be sharing all the details with you next week. I’m grateful to have this community to share moments like this with.

Thank you for your support,

Until next time
